TXANS's News/Press Releases

Texas commissioner of workers' compensation, Rod Bordelon announced his resignation effective August 1. Bordelon served as workers' compensation commissioner for 6 years. Bordelon previously served as chief of the Office of Public Insurance Counsel at the Texas Department of Insurance and was appointed to both posts by Governor Rick Perry. Bordelon recently testified before the House Committee on Business and Industry that Texas is the only state that does not require employers, regardless of size, to provide workers' compensation insurance. During the same hearing, lawmakers discussed making workers’ comp mandatory and requiring nonsubscribers to submit financial data on injury benefit claims. The next session of the Texas Legislature will convene in January 2015. Gov. Perry’s office stated that, “The governor appreciates Rod’s leadership and commitment to serving Texas and wishes him well in the future.”
