OKLAHOMA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES APPROVES LEGISLATION ALLOWING ALTERNATIVES TO WORKERS' COMPENSATION
Driven by the success of responsible nonsubscriber programs in Texas, the Oklahoma House of Representatives approved legislation yesterday that would allow employers to provide other types of injury benefits as an alternative to workers' compensation insurance. In February, the Oklahoma Senate approved their own version of the bill, creating the possibility that the House and Senate will address differences in conference committee. However, regardless of any differences, little stands in the way of Governor Fallin signing the bill into law. In addition to the alternative option, the bill replaces a judicial system to hear workers' compensation disputes with an administrative process patterned after the state of Arkansas.
